Introductions, how long have you been riding, how did you get into it?
My name is Jana Kašová, my nickname is JanKa 😁 (it was created by a funny coincidence in high school and I kept it, later it was the name of my blog at Freeride.CZ and my Instagram. 😂) I’ve been riding since 2014, when I went to Playground Travel camp in France for the first time and I loved it so much that I stayed there working all summer. Then I immediately went on ERASMUS to Bilbao, where I already got my first board and fell so in love with the ocean life and surfing that there was no turning back. Since then I’ve been doing everything I can to surf as much as possible! 😁 Sometimes it’s quite a sacrifice 😅 but it’s definitely worth it! 😁
Are there other brands that sponsor you?
I don’t have any big sponsors that would pay for new boards or tickets to competitions yet… I would need it ahah 😅, anyway, besides Flamenell I am supported by Rip Curl, Spanish travel agency Malamalama travels and financial advisor Libor Valečka and partners. 😊
Which is your favourite spot?
I spend most of my time surfing in Portugal, where I live and train most of the year. But I also try to go to Spain, France and ideally somewhere tropical in the winter.
Biggest achievement in your SURF career?
My biggest achievement is winning the Czech Surfing Championship, at Surfchamp 2019. Since then there have been no competitions over covid, until this year’s Czech Surfing Cup, where I am leading after two 1st places in partial competitions in Portugal and Sri Lanka. 😊 Another success is three years in a row 1st,3rd and again 1st place in the Nova Surf Contest university competitions in Portugal.
Favourite things to do when you’re not surfing?
I enjoy all boardsports, so when I’m not surfing I’m riding a surfboard, snowboarding or hiking in the mountains or cliffs in Portugal. 😁
What is your SURF DREAM?
My dream right now is to compete in the ISA World Surf Games 2023 with the top surfers and also to try some Portuguese Open competitions. And most importantly to enjoy surfing all the time and never let the sport become a routine for me and more of a chore or something I have to do than fun. 😊
why flamenell?
I like that Flamenell is all about the lifestyle of a bunch of girls around boardsports. 🌺 And somehow I’ve always wanted to be part of that crew. 😁 What the hell, it’s mostly more of a men’s group around the boards. That’s not a bad thing of course😁, but still it’s always nice to have a quiet surf session with girls on the same wave. 🦩🦩🦩
